Progress is being made on the site of the former Grimberg 3/4 colliery in Bergkamen-Weddinghofen. The topping-out ceremony for the first of four buildings in the village of Bergkamen took place on March 23, 2023.

The construction work is progressing according to plan. By mid-year, in time for the new kindergarten year, the kindergarten in Building 2 will be ready for operation. Buildings 1 and 2, with 39 apartments in the assisted living facility, a day care, a café, medical practices, a bakery, and a physiotherapy practice, will then be completed gradually in the first quarter of 2024, and the first residents can move in.

A total of four buildings will be built on the site. "Assuming that the building permit is granted in a timely manner, the completion of Buildings 3 and 4 is planned for 2025," explains Ian Biglands, managing director of wohnvoll Development Service. These buildings will also offer an outpatient service and two nursing home groups, creating an additional 81 apartments. All four buildings will be built to modern environmental standards, with Buildings 1 and 2 as energy-efficient homes according to the KfW-40 standard.

All apartments are barrier-free and equipped with digital assistance systems, which are intended to ensure not only the safety of the residents, but also easier communication among them. There will also be numerous service and accompanying care offerings. "Our focus is on enabling residents to live as independently as possible in their old age," explains Anette von Zitzewitz, head of corporate communication at wohnvoll AG.

As part of the wohnvoll AG concept, the facility is also deliberately opened towards the neighborhood, enabling contact between residents and the community. Collaboration with the kindergarten is also conceivable to bring together different generations. The Weddinghofen area has long been used in the mining tradition. "With this project, which addresses one of the major challenges of our society by creating housing for modern seniors, we are leading the site into the future and at the same time doing something for the development of the Weddinghofen district", emphasizes Christine Busch, First Deputy Mayor of the city of Bergkamen.
